Joe's Crabshack, First Street near Centennial Park

Saturday, July 18, 2009 1:00pm

Rough lunch. To start, NO JACK DANIELS or even any Jack Daniels Products. Bartender Jay told us they were out. Ended up settling for Jim Beam. A beautiful view of the Caloosahatchee River and the marina was hidden by T-Shirts hanging on a line for display in front of the windows....kind of like eating lunch behind someone's clothes line in their back yard. The sudden VERY loud blast of The Village People's YMCA was startling, even with the verbal warning a few minutes earlier by the hostess. Bartended Jay explained the 2 for 1 Happy Hour deal, which was for basically everything we DON'T drink.

For the moms out there---there was no changing table in the ladies room for babies. One mom left saying "I'll change him at home." There was a mommy in the bathroom changing her son in his stroller, which blocked all other stalls. She told me that they (Joe's) used to have a changing table in the bathroom but they took it out when an "incompetent mom" wasn't paying attention to her kid who fell off the changing table.

It took a VERY long time to get 2 grilled mahi sandwiches...over 25 minutes. The manager came by and apologized for the delay. The worst part of the experience?? When we were finishing our meal, the bartender came over and told us that there WAS Jack Daniels, but the manager had moved it to another part of the bar!!! AAAARRRRRGGGHHHH. Ultimately, the manager gave us 50% off of our food bill. Here is how Joe's measured up:

POUR METER: Adequate

SERVICE METER: Good. Jay did the best he could with what he had to work with.

STAFF METER: Good

FOOD METER: Food was good, it just took too long to get it.

NOISE METER: VERY noisy

CLEAN METER: Fair

ENTERTAINMENT METER: TV in bar showing golf which was good. YMCA was deafeningly loud, but part of their fun.

KID METER: Kids can get up and dance the YMCA with the wait staff

Pour Meter: Good pour

Staff Meter: Good

Service Meter: Good

Food Meter: Good

Clean Meter: Good

Entertainment Meter: Several TVs in the bar playing sports

Kid Meter: No kids out that late....good thing!

Leroy Selmons off University Blvd. Sarasota, FL

Wednesday July 15, 2009 7:30 PM

Had a bad experience last night at Leroy Selmons, which is not the norm. I have eaten at this particular restaurant many times and have never had an experience like this before. To start, I did not recognize any of the usual bartenders. Ordered the mahi-mahi and when it came out I asked for butter...twice....but it never came. At the end of the meal, I asked for one roll with butter...twice...and it never came. First time in 5 years I did not leave a tip, but I did leave a note on the credit card receipt: "Asked for butter twice, got zero. Asked for roll twice, got zero. Equals tip zero." Here is how they measured up:

Pour Meter: Good

Service Meter: POOR, POOR, POOR!!

Staff Meter: POOR, POOR, POOR!!

Food Meter: Good

Noise Meter: Very noisy

Clean Meter: Clean

Entertainment Meter: Only sports on TV. I'm not a sports guy, so it really doesn't interest me

Kid Meter: Seemed friendly, but didn't see a lot of kids

Road House on 41, Ft. Myers, FL

Saturday July 11, 2009

We visited Road House at 1:30 for a late lunch. Having been familiar with the previous occupant, Hops, we were surprised to see how drastically the building had been modified. The old beer brewery was now a game room for kids. Our bartender Christina was very friendly and accomodating. The VP of Operations, Rick Case, also stopped by to introduce himself. Here was how they measured up:

Pour Meter: Fair (4.5 ounce glass) Cost was $3.50. Happy Hour ALL DAY!

Staff Meter: Very Friendly

Food Meter: Good, except it took a long time to . Grilled chicken sandwich was delicious and the mahi sandwich was also very good. The grilled veggies didn't sound good, but were actually very tasty! Prices were reasonable.

Noise Meter: LOUD

Clean Meter: Peanut shells on the floor bother me, but whatever!

Entertainment Meter: Only had music playing in the background. The bar had numerous TVs on the walls, but no sound turned on.

Kid Meter: Kid friendly, but that's not my thing.
